Virginia Reports Record Low in New COVID Cases

Virginia has reached a record low in the number of new coronavirus cases.

The state reported Tuesday just 59 new cases in the state, according to Richmond’s NBC News affiliate. Additionally, the positivity rate is now 2.7%, well below the recommended 5%.

Gov. Ralph Northam issued an executive order last week lifting all social distancing and capacity restrictions, though a mask mandate will remain for certain situations.

As of Wednesday, approximately 3.8 million Virginians, or 44.6% of the state’s population, have been fully vaccinated, according to the state health department.
